This exhibition is drawn principally from the McClelland permanent collection, including several presented for the first time since their acquisition, with the addition of several key works on private loan.
Featured artists include Narelle Autio, Mike Brown, Andrew Browne, Augustine Dall'Ava, Peter Datjin, John Davis, Juan Ford, Angelina George, John Gollings, Janet Laurence, Akio Makigawa, John Mawurndjul, Anton McMurray, Dorothy Napangardi, Jasmine Targett, Neil Taylor, Wukun Wanambi, Pedro Wonaeamirri, Timothy Wulanjbirr, Gulumbu Yunupingu.
Exhibition essay excerpt -
"Jasmine Targett seeks to rectify what she refers to as the ‘blind spot’ in our collective vision; our seeming inability to comprehend or acknowledge the necessity of maintaining balance in the systems of nature, in order to preserve the stability needed for us to survive within it. Targett explores the 20th century discovery of the ozone hole as a ‘tipping point’ for widespread awareness of human impacts on the earth’s ecosystem. In Blind Spot 2014 Targett has used computer technology to create a 3D representation of the ozone hole, which bears a striking resemblance to an iceberg. The suspended mirror acts as a satellite, reflecting that which cannot be seen from Earth- making the invisible and incomprehensible tangible."
